Tampa, Fla. – Laurel Lee today released the following statement, attributed to her, a Republican candidate for Florida Congressional District 15, regarding the recent action taken by federal law enforcement agencies against Trump.
“The execution of a search warrant at the residence of a former President of the United States is an unprecedented action by the Department of Justice. As a former prosecutor, I’m extremely concerned about the implications of the search and the effect it will have on public trust in the institutions of our criminal justice system.
“We need transparency and accountability from our law enforcement institutions. I urge U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland and FBI Director Christopher Wray to immediately address unanswered questions regarding this action, including why it was necessary and why this aggressive step was taken.
“Federal law enforcement agencies should not be weaponized or abused for political gain, and Attorney General Garland and FBI Director Wray have an obligation to provide accurate, transparent and open information about this disturbing raid. The American people deserve to have confidence in their leaders and in their criminal justice system.”
